Irish football fans’ exclusive taste for the big time is causing problems for them and the game. The FAI stands accused in The Irish Times today of fleecing the event junkies by requiring them to buy tickets to the Montenegro match if they want to watch the Azzurri in Croker today.

Signed up months ago for LoI updates. Now, with the season in its final throes, up pops the first email communication, advertising the FAI Cup semis draw and the League Cup final.  Better late than never.

The obsession of Irish sports fans with British football got a good airing on Setanta Sports last evening. The announcement of the Ireland-Australia friendly at rugby’s Thomond Park occasions a spot of FAI-bashing from the Herald, centred on the association’s seeming myopia to the league’s problems.

The game goes on

The Tribune, via Miguel Delaney, offers a good season preview which is relatively free of the dreary obsession with finances, recognising the fact that, even if there is a lot of action off the pitch, the game must go on.

What’s in a logo?

The League has a new logo, presumably to go with the new site, although it’s been introduced with little or no fanfare. FP has added it to the front page (bottom right).

‘Real football, real fans’. That’s what the holding screen on loi.e says, as it promises a new website launch from March 2, in time for the coming season.
