It’s heart-warming to read, courtesy of the Irish Independent, that LA Galaxy are recovering from their injection of celebrity culture. It vaguely calls to mind that great story of the  Skibbereen Eagle keeping its eye on the Russian Tzar.

FP had a gentle dig at Villain Pauline McLynn’s mainland footballing loyalties yesterday, but can now exclusively reveal that the writer/actor/comedian is also a proud Bohs fan.

Pauline McLynn shows her (relatively) good taste in English football and tells us that she is a devotee of Aston Villa. Then she tells us that she went to see ‘City’ v Arsenal. Um. And that she is ‘hooked on the live game’.

Thanks you honest Tom Hanks! The fabulously witty actor appeared on the Jonathan Ross show the other evening and, among other things, professed his love for Aston Villa, in the process giving us an honest take on virtual football fandom.

Move over Sunderland. You’re not Irish any more, because now it’s the turn of Ipswich.
The cult of Roy Keane is being harnessed to bring Irish fans to a place that will be familiar to few of them, assuming they can find it on the map, the Sunday Times tells us.
