Class, and not religion, as Kieren Westwood would have it, has won through in the end for Bohs keeper Brian Murphy.

Here, in all its shame, is the juvenile, sneering face of Irish media’s real attitude to Irish football. It’s from one Tommy Conlon, clearly anxious to make his name and join the junket trail to Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford.

It’s good to see Pat Fenlon pipe up for the league and its players. Not enough figures in the LoI are prepared to speak out, but the Bohs boss gives it a good lash here, responding to the latest snub to Brian Murphy.

Sean Connor’s spat with the press aside, there’s been little to animate coverage of the league of late, other, of course, than action on the pitch, and we know where we stand with that. But, after a quiet period on the money front, the rumblings are sounding again.

Other than for its measly match coverage, how do you get a League of Ireland story published in The Irish Times? That’s a difficult one at the best of times, but one way is to offer them the R word, even in a Champions’ League semi-finals week.
