Don’t say ‘fuck’ if you’re a League of Ireland fan. It can get you into trouble with the law.

That’s the message from this Galway Independent court report (note the inevitable ’soccer’ in the headline), which documents a garda’s evidence against a foolish chap who ran onto the pitch after a goal. Not good, and not approved of by clubs, who are fined by the FAI for such stupidity.

The offender wasn’t punished for his expletives, but for later threatening to give the guard ‘a slap’ and for refusing to give his name and details. And anyone who does that deserves what’s coming to him.

But, in the light of recent discussions concerning post-match celebrations at Croke Park, one wonders whether, if he had been a GAA supporter invading a GAA pitch, there would have been any exchange of unpleasantries to start with, and whether the matter would have ended up in court.

As a nasty LoI fan who admits he might on a very rare occasion use a term that clearly is alien to the rest of the community,  to the extent that a guard is shocked to the core when he hears it, I’m just f…in’ sayin’!

The guard was not shocked to the core by hearing the f word. He was told to eff off, which is a completely different thing. This last paragraph of yours is a pure straw man
