Drivetime Sport is one of the country’s biggest sports broadcast slots, but it doesn’t do the League too many favours.

Here’s it’s mission statement. You may notice that something — apart from a cursory spell-check —  is missing…

The programme reflects Ireland’s passion for sport, the drama, the arguments, the bragging rights, and the fun that take place in the workplace before and after a big sporting occassion!!!

The programme deals with the big stories and issues, both nationally and internationally, and features some of the biggest names.

Obviously, there is a huge concentration on domestic sport, but from a global perspective, those who have taken part in special interviews include Seve Ballesteros, Bobby Charlton, Nick Faldo, Martina Navratilova, Arnold Palmer, and French football legend, Michel Platini.

But who better to discuss our domestic games than Pat Spillane, Ger Loughnane, Liam Griffin, Joe Brolly or Jimmy Barry Murphy who contribute on all of the raging GAA topics, that get our listeners so worked up!!

Last evening’s output was wholly in keeping with this ethos. Here’s the blurb…

On tonight’s programme Des talked to Sean Kelly about the Tour De France.Terry Baxter – Director of Communications with Ipswich Town talked about a pre-season match with Finn Harps. Johnny Hynes – author of “ The Irish Kop” talked about the link Liverpool has with it’s Irish fans and players while Trent Johnston talked about the Ashes and what makes it such riveting viewing for experienced cricket viewers.

Disregarding the cricket and cycling (and the ‘it’s‘)  and focussing entirely on football, it’s clear where Drivetime Sport’s priorities lie, especially when one considers that there were two Premier Division games kicking off last night, a little over an hour of the start of the show.

Have a listen. If you’re a Liverpool fan or an Ipswich supporter, it’s for you.
